Indian insurance online

Insurance is a hot market these days with lots of opportunities. Indian insurance online marketplace is very narrow. Still common people are not going to web for their insurance solutions but they approach local agents.

Big players like bimabazaar.com, policybazaar.com, apnainsurance.com etc. are some of online insurance sites.

Small players are also coming up. I recently landed on an insurance community where I found very interesting discussions going on.
Bimaworld.com has a interesting thread If I can't pay my premium what should I do?.

EIILM institute seminar on Risk management and capital markets

"Financial risk management and capital markets" is a hot subject among finance companies. EIILM (Eastern institute of integrated learning and management) recently conducted a seminar on similar subject.

Eminent professors, finance industry experts and students from various institutes attended this event conducted at Hotel Taj Bengal, Kolkata.

I received an invitation from a friend who is a visiting faculty for the institute.

With indifference I reached the place, and with equal casualness met with professor Banerjee. Professor sahab was a gentleman and a scholar. He gave an brief introduction and interesting examples on the subject and promised me to help with additional materials if I find the subject interesting.

Need of a finance information repository.

Finance is a basic commodity.

Everybody needs it in different forms.

People search on web and try the results according to search engine’s ranking.
Some get desired information while others go to local vendors.
Somehow everybody settle down on a deal.

Ultimately the decision in both cases is not an informed decision. Basically it is decision out of compulsion and not by selection.

In nutshell, a very minuscule no of people get a good financial deal.
And they are only those who have good knowledge of finance + aware of available products/offers in the market.

Issues like bargaining, customer support services, etc. are also there which nobody cares while fixing deal.

Q. Why in information age this lack of data availability is there.

Because data is not available?
No.

Because its expensive to collect data?
No.

Because vendors are not active in disseminating data?
No

Because data is dig inside complex network of links in finance websites?
No

Ans: Because data is not described. Because data is not organized.

A case study:
Objective: To purchase an apartment for $200,000 at RoseValley in New Town.
Obstacle: $100,000 is short.
Solution: Home Loans.

Plan of action:
1) Make a list of home loan providers in the city.
2) Go to each one and get their offers
3) Compare each offer
4) Go ahead with the best one

Problem:
1) The plan requires lots of time to gather necessary information.
2) Selection+Bargaining for best offer depend on skills of customer

Cause of problem:
1) Vendors and affiliates keep information with themselves and supply only on demand.
2) No single body or authority which collects and organizes the information.
